Tuesday 9th October - Day 6 - Moscow to Yekaterinburg

Last night we left the light on for Carla and Simon who stayed up for a few more beers than us but it kept flicking on and off, it was very annoying and Jon thought it was me! He had made himself a little camp with all the bed sheets for privacy where myself and Carla were on the top bunks. We woke this morning in a pool of sweat it was so hot. Simon was sleeping in jeans with a thick heavy blanket and I was sweating just looking at him!

We got up and had tea in the restaurant and just chatted for a few hours redesigning houses and talking mortgages of all things. We went back to the cabin to clean teeth and seek some items of entertainment before heading back to the restaurant. We read, completed puzzles and had a ham sandwich with crisps for lunch. I was poised with my camera at the exact point a very colourful moth came to land on my hand! Jon opened the window for two seconds so that I could set it free and we got told off! They don’t like fresh air and cool breeze on this train!

We stopped for 20 minutes at a platform where we could step off briefly. It was sunny and fresh and very nice. Various locals tried to sell us such things as chandeliers, dried fish and lace clothes but we resisted! We spent the last few hours just having time out and trying to keep cool before arriving in Yekaterinburg at 8pm. We met two Russian guys in the bar that bought us a beer and told us that discovering Russia was dangerous so we left the train feeling all the more safe for speaking to them!

Our Go Russia taxi driver practically came on the train to help us off and we took their ride to our Guru Hotel where we checked in no problems. Our room was approximately a million degrees hot so the window went wide open and the two radiators got turned off and the air con got turned on max! We saw a subway in our basement so there is dinner only a stone throw away, time to relax. Zakryt eto okrno!

  1. I can't decided on my favourite photo for today - the butterfly, the sunset or the glorious sandwich! Ha Ha.
